Audio is one such crucial evidence which is being submitted in the court of law in many criminal or civil cases. But such evidence requires due authentication and verification that has given rise to Audio Forensic which deals with Forensic Audio Authentication.
At times, some audio recordings are retrieved from some crime scene or in legal proceedings, the legal parties claim to have voice recording as an evidence or proof to substantiate the burden of proof. However, such audio recordings need to be authenticated after forensic examination by an expert to be admissible in the court of law to prove their genuineness.
HOW TO AUTHENTICATE AN AUDIO RECORDING
The chain of activity that is followed for forensic audio authentication analysis includes acquisition of evidence, assessment, examination, documentation and report generation.
ACQUISTION
The audio recordings are acquired by maintaining a proper chain of custody in order to keep transparency of the whole process of collection, handling and storing of the audio evidence.
ASSESSMENT
Taking into the account of the case, the digital evidence is thoroughly is assessed.
EXAMINATION
This involves audio evidence enhancement, analysis and interpretation. The audio recordings submitted for analysis are examined thoroughly for establishing the genuineness of the audio evidences and are checked for signs of alteration or manipulation, if any.
REPORTING
The report is generated on the basis of observation and result of the forensic examination of audio evidence which is admissible in the Court of law.
